Our Hike to Second Grade
It's a long hike to second grade, so it's important that we work together. Follow the tips below to make your hike to second grade a successful one.
- Tackle your first grade work with a positive attitude. I always remind the children, "Just try your hardest and do your best first grade work." I really believe that all of my students are capable of great things, so I encourage them to complete their assignments using their best effort. I also remind the first graders to pay attention to their work, listen to their teacher, and to ask questions whenever they don't understand.
- Becoming an independent reader is a huge component of first grade. It is so important that they read to someone or read independently on a regular basis at home. The more they practice the better they will become!!
- In order to make the hike through first grade a smooth one, please make sure your child gets plenty of rest on a nightly basis. When possible, try to have them complete their homework early in the evening so they don't have to rush through it late at night. A well rested child is generally more attentive and ready to learn.
- Please make sure your child also has a well balanced breakfast every morning. Studies have shown that students who eat a nutritious breakfast perform better in the classroom.
